It will be useful if you could share more information about this, if It is a specific search with bad performance, or if this is a general performance issue that is making all your searches run slow.
Also, I suggest taking a look at the monitoring console panels for Search usage statistics and Expensive searches, under the Search tab, which can bring you some information about searches running with bad performance.
