Hi @adellaroccasys,
If you happen to be using the latest version of our software, you can check out the Choropleth maps feature. It sounds like a Choropleth map could help visualize the relative values of average_arrival_delay in your data. The built-in mapping tools would allow you to compare this value across US states. Or, you could upload a custom KMZ file and set up a lookup to translate the lat/lon values in your data for a different regional context.

Here is some documentation:
http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/6.3.1/Viz/Choroplethmaps

There is also a blog post on working with custom files and lookups:
http://blogs.splunk.com/2015/10/01/use-custom-polygons-in-your-choropleth-maps/

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need other suggestions.

All best,

If anyone is choosing this route, there is a neat app called Shapester (https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/2893/) for making custom polygons (made by the author of the blog post).
