Splunk Enterprise

New installation. Returns ‘Illegal instruction’ when running ./splunk start

As a hobbyist, trying to set up my first RnD environment on an oldish server. A fresh install of Debian 12 and an install of splunk enterprise. Once installed I run

./splunk start

as described and it immediately responds with:

Illegal Instruction

My assumption is the hardware (CPU in particular)may be too old,  but is there a way of checking that this is the actual case here?

Thanks

Make sure you installed a Splunk package that is compatible with your platform (Windows, ARM, etc).

It’s Debian 12 on an amd64 cpu and I’ve used splunk-10.0.2-e2d18b4767e9-linux-amd64.deb to install, which I believe is the right package for the platform.

Thanks

Are you sure you're not running 32-bit distro?

Or that you haven't downloaded the aarch64 version instead of amd64? (I'm not sure it would install but better to double check).
