Please share the exact text of the error messages.
Sometimes, the "missing index" message appears when someone adds an input to a forwarder and that input specifies an index name that doesn't exist. Users and system admins should be told not to mess with Splunk Universal Forwarders without consulting a Splunk Admin (you) first.
