Why is Splunk Web via local tunnel not working in Firefox, when it works in Chrome?

Hey,

I've noticed this strange issue while trying to access Splunk web via a local SSH tunnel (127.0.0.1:8000) in Putty.

This works fine in Chrome and Firefox, but only if SSL is enabled. Otherwise, it only works in Chrome.

Accessing this URL in Firefox:

http://127.0.0.1:8000/en-US/account/login

results in this message:

No cookie support detected. Check
your browser configuration.

Accessing the URL with Chrome works fine, and as soon as I enable 'enableSplunkWebSSL', it can also log in via Firefox again (with HTTPS of course)

Does anyone have the same trouble with Firefox lately?

Thanks!

(tested with Firefox 65.0.2 and Splunk 7.2.1)

@dkrey, I had something similar with local installation. It occurred when i had two instances of splunk on different ports with same ip.
Try accessing it in a private window(incognito) in FF or clear the caches and try

I'm also having issues with using Putty and Chrome.

What is the correct Putty config setup to access Splunk Enterprise Login that is hosted on a remote Linux server?

Wow, that was fast 🙂
Accessing the GUI in private mode did the trick! Thanks a lot!

Glad that worked :-). I will convert it to answer - might be useful for someone else as well
