How to get Splunk to use a different python version than the one that is shipped along with it

I ran pystones test and noticed that the python that is shipped with Splunk is slower than if I install the same python version on the system and use that.
Is there a way to have Splunk use a different python that the one that is shipped along with it?

Thanks!
