DBX, DB Connect Snag list

Path Finder

Hi,

Having gone grey and bitten my nails to the bone, I've now successfully setup DBX!

I was getting 'I.O Connection' and 'Encountered the following error while trying to update: In handler 'localapps': Error while posting to url=/servicesNS/nobody/dbx/dbx/install/java'

Here is my snag list to help other splunkers:

  • Check your Java installation. JRE x86 1.7_72 works, seems that 1.8 or 64bit caused problems and i never got anywhere with the server edition.
  • Path 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7' with no trailing '\'
  • JVM CL options: '-Xmx256m -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -Duser.language=en -Duser.region=' NOTE: '-server' removed
  • I set the environmental variable path to 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7'

If people can add other things to check.

To save your future nails from torture, check out the deployment requirements in the DBX docs, specifically the Java section: http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/DBX/1.1.5/DeployDBX/Deploymentrequirements#Java_Runtime_Environ...

That says 1.6 or 1.7 Standard Edition, not 1.8 or server.
