Splunk Cloud Setup Issue

I am recently playing around the Splunk cloud free trial, I followed the tutorial on its website but I could not receive any data from Splunk interface. I've set /var/log/splunk as a folder to monitor and the receive server, but i dont see any data in.. any help thanks in advance..
