Can “SAML” authentication be used with REST API on a paid subscription to Splunk cloud?

This https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/SplunkCloud/latest/RESTTUT/RESTandCloud link states that Splunk Support opens port 8089 for REST access. And then once you have REST API access, you can make calls with a SAML account.

Whereas, this https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/SplunkCloud/8.1.2011/User/Admintasks link states "You cannot use SAML authentication with the REST API".

Are these two documentations unrelated? Can “SAML” authentication be used with REST API on a paid subscription to Splunk cloud, or not?

Oh boy I hate this interface and I write out this response a second time.  Anyway its over a year since you posted this and I have the same concern.  Experiemtation shows I can hit the api with a local account but not a saml but then the documentation leads me astray suggesting a saml should be able to.

replying to myself so I can make a reference to pathfinder second edition without it cluttering up the actual technical questions.

Does this mean you did or didn't manage to auth to a non-local account in the end? (I'm thinking not?)
