Would you mind advising what you are trying to achieve?

I will start with my assumption, apologies if I misunderstood your initial request.

I believe you are trying to monitor docker containers on a host, which means you have to install the machine agent onto the Host Itself.

1. Have you installed the Machine agent on the host?

2. Is this a SaaS AppDynamics instance?

3. Where are you looking to check for the containers on the AppD UI?

If you could provide some snapshots of what you are looking at and what you are expecting that would assist in helping you get it working:)
