What will happen to all permissions when deleting & re-creating a role? Do I have to define all permissions again?

Hi,

What will happen to all the permissions when I delete and re-create a role called "A"?
Will I have to define all permissions for reports & dashboards for role "A" again, or will it still be available after deleting and re-creating it?

Best
Heinz

I've never done it and I'm not positive, but I think you'd be ok. At least on the surface, when looking at the metadata files, the permissions are given to role names. Unless there's something else happening further down in the bowels of splunk, that would make me think that as long as the name is the same, then it shouldn't be an issue.

If I were you though, I would certainly test that theory first - easy enough to create a new role/dashboard, delete/recreate and see what happens.

Also, out of curiosity, why are you doing this in the first place? Just wondering what will change from the current role to the new one and why not make the changes in the current one instead.

I had to deal with permission problems, the role was able to see more apps & dashboards than I allowed. That's why I wanted to test a re-creation of that role.

I used a new role for testing and Splunk remembers all configurations!
