Reporting

Trying to configure reports to be emailed to a group Microsoft Exchange distribution list, but why does Splunk send emails to individual email ids instead?

We have an AWS instance in gov cloud and we found while scheduling Splunk reports to email a customer that report is ready, emails are not being delivered to group distribution email ids (Microsoft Exchange SMTP address) but are getting delivered to individual email id (if given).

_Internal log:

2017-01-12 16:05:16,877 -0500 INFO sendemail:124 - Sending email. subject="Splunk Email Notification to test", results_link="https://xxxxxxxxxxxx/app/search/@go?sid=scheduler__nobody__search__RMD5e80f2af196f8ae4b_at_1484255100_455_1C9BA1C9-51E3-4579-9450-E32732B0AEA8", recipients="[u'SMTPADDRESS of DL@XXXXXXX', u'Individual e-mail@XXXX.com']", server="localhost"

Any Ideas?

It is most likely that the SMTP Server is configured to block external sources from using Distribution Lists for security.

I would ask the owners of the Exchange system to confirm this setting, and work with them to allow you send to dl's as required

Depending on what version of Exchange you are using you might see stuff like this:
