Automated Archival is a new capability within Metrics Management; which is a robust usage & cost optimization solution to combat concerns of growing observability costs.
This new feature automatically routes and stores unused metric data in a low-cost archival tier using preset rules. After configuring the automation process, users can now delegate the archiving process to Splunk and have their unused metrics automatically archived, allowing them to more effectively reduce their costs and optimize their metrics volume at scale.
This low-cost archival tier is approximately ten percent of the cost of the real-time tier and provides Splunk Observability Cloud customers with a solid low-cost option for long term storage of less valuable metrics. This provides easier control over metrics volume and streamline the data management experience.
