SmartStore with on-prem S3 : Best Practices & Sizing Guides

Looking for guidelines on how to size a SmartStore configuration with an S3 on-prem solution.

Does anyone have any rules of thumbs or concise analysis for sizing SmartsStores for on-prem across various indexer/cache tiers?
Is it best to use a single bucket? What about mix retention times for source data? Would multiple buckets work for easier data management and aging?

In addition to the Smart store documentation, you could watch the recording from the SF Bay area user group in July. https://usergroups.splunk.com/group/san-francisco-bay-area-splunk-user-group/a1400214-6d20-479e-8c8a...

We had a vendor talk about SmartStore and there were some good questions.
