Is it possible to create a summary index with Hunk?

Is it possible to create a summary index with Hunk? I'm also curious as to the implementation so that we can build it in an optimized way.

i.e. - Is the summary index stored in hdfs or Splunk? Is it just a scheduled mapreduce job?

I'd like to understand where Hunk + Hive summary searches are stored on disk for backup purposes.
