Can I use XML for searches/alerts?

Is there any reference? Can you provide an example to perform a search for a particular view?

No, one cannot use XML in searches/alerts.  Searches must be in SPL (or SPL2 if you use the Dashboard Studio).  Classic dashboards use Simple XML, but the searches they perform must be written in SPL.
