is it possible to install the same Enterprise license on both our production license master and our dev license master?

We have a production cluster running with a license master to manage our Enterprise license that all of the instances connect to. We also have a dev cluster setup to more or less mirror our production setup.

In the past we had our dev cluster just use the production license master to get the license, but we want to try to move away from that and keep both clusters completely isolated from one another.

So, the question then is: is it possible to install the same Enterprise license on the Production License Master and our Dev License Master? If that's not possible, does Splunk have some sort of Enterprise Dev License that can be used? I know there's the Splunk Dev/Test license, but it seems that's more for standalone Enterprise and not intended for use with a cluster.

You have a couple of options to consider.

• leverage the same license master with license pools: https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/7.2.0/Admin/Createalicensepool
  Then, you can create a pool for your dev indexers only and assign the correct indexers to that pool as well as a license amount. All your license views can be split by pool for your reference ootb

• build a new license master, contact your splunk sales rep and ask them to carve a piece of your license for the new license master.

note: i do not work for Splunk, option 2 is solely depending upon Splunk sales to provide
