Hi,
I am installing a fresh copy of Splunk Enterprise version 8.1 on Linux on a new Linux server, I had an existing copy which is v6.4, may I know what do I have to take note of ? (eg packages that I had to download before installing, searches and indexes that may not work in the new version)

Since you installed 8.1 on a new server, it is not considered an upgrade so there are no concerns there.
You will need to re-install any apps you installed on the 6.4 instance.
To find out what has changed since version 6.4 read the release notes (https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/8.1.1/ReleaseNotes/MeetSplunk)
If this reply helps you, Karma would be appreciated.
