Why, during the install of an RPM, there is no feedback that post install scripts are running?

We have Splunk Indexer cluster, where each of the indexers has over 200K buckets. During the upgrade using RPM, there is no feedback that post-install scripts are running.

The CHOWN -R that runs during an upgrade with a large number of buckets. It appeared that the upgrade/install has hung. but 20+ minute post install process were running. During this time no message was displayed..
