If a free profile is already set up and created with the software download option, can you switch it to cloud based? I'm running into downloading and uploading errors with the current profile and need to switch to cloud base.
You can have both a on-prem Splunk instance as well as a Splunk Cloud instance. Be aware, however, that Splunk Cloud is only free for 7 days whereas your downloaded Splunk is free forever. If you want to try Splunk Cloud just go to splunk.com and sign up.
Wouldn't it be better to resolve the problems you're having instead of giving up? You'll probably learn a lot more about Splunk that way. Also, the problems you're having now may continue with Splunk Cloud so better to fix them now.
Thank you @richgalloway ! That's good info to know. I believe the errors I'm having trying to add apps are due to my company's own security measures. My thought was to switch it to the cloud to see if that would be a work around. But if it free trial is only 7 days, that may not work so well.
Tell us more about the problems you're having (or post a new question) so we can get them resolved.
Also remember that your on-premise splunk installs first with evaluation license for 30 days (if I remember correctly) with full functionality (for a single-server installation; you can't cluster it as far as I recall). After first 30 days it converts to splunk free installation.
