Hi,
I would like to do testing of forwarder. I have installed Splunk on my laptop. I have Ubuntu on virtual box on this laptop. Can I install Splunk Universal forwarder on Ubuntu and forward data to Splunk server on my windows host?

If yes, please send me the steps/configuration required.
Thanks,

Ravi

You can use whatever address you're using for reaching your host OS from your virtual machine. This is a virtual box networking question rather than a Splunk question.

Do I use my laptop machine name as the receiving indexer's hostname at port 9997?
