Splunk Trial on Linux WSL 20.04

The splunk file has been downloaded, extracted and when starting splunk there is the following error:

homePath='/opt/splunk/var/lib/splunk/audit/db' of index=_audit on unusable filesystem.
Validating databases (splunkd validatedb) failed with code '1'.

I have checked the location, opt/splunk/var/lib/splunk/audit/db and it contains the following files:

test.2BREdp

test.PNih3U
