Is upgrading from 4.1 (build 77833) to 4.1.3 just a straight upgrade?

I'm evaluating Splunk 4.1 (build 77833) on my Mac laptop.

Splunk has been turned off since April. When I started Splunk, the application said something like "You should upgrade... security vulnerabilities, something something". I have since lost that notification box, and it looks like it had some useful links on it. Is it possible to get that back?

I see that a version 4.1.3 is available from the download page. I see many warnings about using care when upgrading. However, I don't see any instructions on how to upgrade from my version to 4.1.3, here or at READTHISFIRST

Is there anything special that I need to do before upgrading from Splunk 4.1 (build 77833) to

You should be fine. Most of the upgrade warnings have to do with upgrading from 3.4.x which was a very big deal. Even moving from 4.0.x to 4.1 was pretty painless compared to that upgrade.

Moving from 4.1.x to 4.1.y should always be a simple upgrade and should generally only contain bug fixes and performance improvements. It's unusual to run into issues during such an upgrade, from my experience.

Just install the new version to the same install path as your existing splunk install and you should be good to go.

the topics for upgrading within a version range (4.1 -> 4.1.x) were inadvertently left out of the 4.1 manuals, thanks for noticing. i've added them back in:
