How do you switch to a free license in Splunk Light? I've tried adding the license configurations to the server.conf
as described by other splunkers:
https://answers.splunk.com/answers/49660/switch-splunk-to-free-license.html#answer-49665
but that converts Splunk to Enterprise Free. I'm looking for Light Free.
I had downloaded Splunk Light and barely used it. When I logged a while later (6 weeks?) I had warnings about license violations and a prompt to switch to a Splunk Light Free (500MB) license. This seems to be in accordance with the About Licensing page. I accepted the prompt and everything seemed to update automatically.
I confirmed that I had the new license via the System | Licensing screen, where I can see a graph of (1) my original 5GB license limit, (2) the limit dropping to 0 bytes and then (3) the limit coming back up to ~500MB,
Note:
I still have warnings such as the following showing on that page, which I assume to be caused by repeated violations of the expired license:
This pool has exceeded its configured poolsize=0 bytes
At this point I can't be sure when they will clear; the About License Violations page suggests another 25 days...
Potentially my follow-up problem of having a license violation is the same as being asked about in this question:
https://answers.splunk.com/answers/188988/trial-license-to-free-license-poolsize0.html
I left this without checking for a few days and now search is working for me, so it looks like you have to wait between 1-5 days before search works again after "downgrading" to the free license.
For me, i installed splunk enterprise in the same location as splunk light and then upon first login it gave me the option to select a splunk free license.
How about using the Licensing management page.
