Why am I unable to delete an index via CLI with error "bundle=indexes stanza=aaa Missing, cannot edit or remove"?

Hi,

I am unable to delete an index from the CLI. When I am giving the following command :

./splunk remove index AAA   

( AAA is my index name )

Then I am getting the following message:

 In handler 'indexes': bundle=indexes stanza=aaa Missing, cannot edit or remove

Could you please let me know what is the exact problem and how do I delete it?

You can manually remove an index by removing or commenting out its definition in indexes.conf and restarting Splunk. After that, you can delete the directories listed in the removed stanza, by default $SPLUNK_DB/index_name to clear up space.

Thanks for the quick response !! But , I have deleted other index with the same command but not AAA index. For AAA index, i am getting an error, even If I try deleting from GUI, I am getting the same error !!

I am using Splunk 6.3.2
