Why am I getting error "Splunk Enterprise Setup Wizard end prematurely because of an error..." trying to install Splunk 6.3.3 on Windows?

Hello,

My site is currently interested in trying out Splunk, but I am unable to install Splunk 6.3.3 on Windows. Another site at our company uses an older version (4.3) and I was able to install that with no problems, but because this would be new to our site, I would like to have the latest version.

I had that issue earlier in the year for some of our systems.
Solution was to run sfc /scannow and then reboot the given systems.

After doing this we were able to install 6.3.3 and newer versions as well.

Splunk is stressing the point, use same local account used before.

We have never had splunk at our site before, so this was a brand new install. I tried the older version from another site and it worked, but I uninstalled it.

please provide more details about why you are unable to install. what happens? what is the error message, if any? what kind of hardware are you using? what version of Windows?

We are running Windows 7 and it gives a generic error message. "Splunk Enterprise Setup Wizard end prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run setup wizard again.."
