Upgrade from 6.5 to last version

We are using Splunk Enterprise 6.5 and we want to upgrade to the last version.

What is the best way to do this ?

to upgrade Splunk from 6.5 to 8.x you have to do many steps and pass through an intermediate version of Splunk https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/8.0.6/Installation/HowtoupgradeSplunk:

• upgrade Splunk to an intermediate version (e.g. 7.1.x) (for more infos see at https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/8.0.6/Installation/HowtoupgradeSplunk );
• install the app Splunk Platform Upgrade Readiness App ( https://splunkbase.splunk.com/app/4698/ ) and check the status of your apps;
• upgrade Splunk to the latest version (today 8.0.6) following instructions at https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/8.0.6/Installation/UpgradeonUNIX ;
• upgrade Apps;
• upgrade Python to 3 following instructions at https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/8.0.2/Installation/PlanPython3 .

If you have distributed environment then here is upgrade order of nodes. You should(/must) follow it to avoid additional issues!
