Splunk DB Connect: Why am I getting an error configuring Java Home with Java version 1.8.0_25?

When configured Java Home as /opt/splunk/java/bin/java from UI, getting the following error message:

"Encountered the following error while trying to update: In handler 'localapps': Error while posting to url=/servicesNS/nobody/dbx/dbx/install/java"

We have Java version 1.8.0_25 running on a Linux system and java home is defined as "JAVA_HOME=/opt/splunk/java/bin/java" and java is owned by Splunk.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Thanks,
Joe

Update:
Solved by changing SELINUX from "enforcing" to "permissive" in "/etc/sysconfig/selinux" and rebooting. Beware of security implications. Please feel free to try fixing the policies instead.

Hi. Java 1.8.x is not compatible with DB Connect 1.1.4. Only Java1.7.x and 1.6.x are compatible with the app. DB Connect docs have been updated to clarify this:

http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/DBX/1.1.4/DeployDBX/Deploymentrequirements#Java_Runtime_Environ...

Thanks

After re-installed Java 1.7.0.51, the UI picks up the Java home automatically, but it still throws the same error message when clicked on "Save". Any clues?

Thanks.

Hi Joe, If you mean using splunk as linux user login that should be fine. No permissions issues.

Hi Sroback,

Is it a problem if installing Java by using splunk account?

Regards,
Joe
