Monitor syslog-ng status

Hi All,

We are running HF and syslog-ng on same server and we want to monitor the syslog-ng status. example if syslog-ng goes down splunk should trigger alert. Can someone suggest how we can achive this?

We can use Splunk App for Unix and Linux or any simple scripted input to monitor the process and create email notification from search head
