Getting Data In

Is it possible to index .mp3 files?

I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere if it was possible to do this, or if not, why? When I attempt to manually index an .mp3 file I can preview stuff like lyrics or comments but the other parts of the file shows up in binary format.

I was just hoping if I could possibly chart lyrics or get stats on how many times an artist appeared as a guest...stuff like that.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Well...it is a binary file.... Splunk does not index binary data. You can look at this blog for some ideas about how to handle binary log data. But are you talking about indexing the mp3 itself? What data are you trying to get to?

No, it is not. Out of curiosity, what kind of results were you expecting?
