Indexing a file

I am just getting started with splunk. I imported a log file from my web server. however, the file dosn't show up in the list of indexed files. The file is over 200MB in size. How long will it take for the file to be indexed?

A 200 MB file will usually get indexed in about 30 to 60 seconds, but the first entries of the file should start showing up immediately. If you don't see some of the data within a few seconds, then it is likely that something is wrong with the input configuration, or that the file was rejected or skipped, that it was read and otherwise discarded (e.g. forwarded, sent to a non-existent indexe), or that it was indexed but that your default settings don't show it (e.g., you sent it to a custom index, but your user role does not include the custom index by default).
