i want to reduce the number in my indexes by filtering out common Windows events such as 4688 event Id. I thought it was through the transforms.conf or inputs.conf. Can any one give me a pointer that would be helpful? thanks

for windows Events you could do it with the blacklist parameter. described in the inputs.conf

# Event Log filtering
#
# Filtering at the input layer is desirable to reduce the total
# processing load in network transfer and computation on the Splunk
# nodes that acquire and processing Event Log data.
