I am trying to bring in a single column from a csv file. I also don't want to bring in any of the other columns. The headers are on line 2 instead of 1.

Headers have to be on line 1 of the file. no 2 ways about it.
to bring in a single column, use the OUTPUT attribute, like so:

| lookup file.csv commonKey OUTPUT Thing
