this license does not support being a remote master - dev license

Hello, I am setting up a test instance to be a license master and trying to connect a second splunk install to point to this license master.  All Splunk 9.4.1

Getting the error on the peer "this license does not support being a remote master".

I've installed a developer license and it shows 'can be remote', so not sure why I cannot connect a peer to it.

On the LM it lists 4 licenses and the 'dev' one is #2, do I need to change the license group to active the 'dev' license?

Hi @dmcnulty

On the license page of your LM - is it listing it as "Enterprise license group"  at the moment, not Free license group? If its Free licence group then you need to switch to Enterprise, at which point it should start using your dev license.

Thank you.  I thought it was something like this and was going to try but didn't want to lose the 'free' option.

I ending up restarting Splunk and this changed allowing me to setup a peer with the license.

Thank you.

You seem to have correct developer not dev/test license or trial. Only this 1st one support remote LM, those two didn't.
