I have the following in my configuration
1 x Cluster Master
2 x Indexers (indexers are configured as site 1 and site 2)
1 x Deployment Server / License Server
1 x Enterprise Security Search Head
I want to add in a standalone search head to read the indexed data. I have read through the doco and I appear to be stuck and can't get the search head in properly. Can someone please clarify the process. This is what I have tried:
1) Build new server and install and configure Splunk Enterprise
2) Log into the search head and click on Indexer Clustering
3) Click on Enabling index Cluster
4) Configure the Search Head to be a "search head" node
5) Point the search head to the CM IP address over TCP/8089
6) Add in the pass4 key
Is this the right procedure? The search head is not going to be part of any search head cluster (and most of the doco infers this when searching for how to do this). This search head is literally only to search data already indexed in the main environment. This would allow for searches without impacting ES.
Indexers as search peers
Indexers as search peers
Better approach according to me here would be :
1) Build new server and install and configure Splunk Enterprise
2) Log into the search head and click on Distributed search
3) Add search peers as indexers
Ref Doc: https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/7.3.1/DistSearch/Configuredistributedsearch
That SH would be able to search your indexed data.
Hope this helps 🙂
I assume in stepb3 you mean add indexes as search peers?
