Multi-site cluster network requirements?

Hi all, I'm trying to find network requirements in regards to bandwidth/latency for multi-site clustering? Is the requirement still "LAN equivalent" as was the case for nodes in a single cluster or can we replicate across WAN circuits now?

You can replicate across WAN using our Splunk 6.1 Multisite clustering feature.

I would anticipate that bandwidth requirements are dependent on the amount of data being indexed/replicated, but is there a (best practice | reference architecture | guideline) for sizing the required bandwidth between sites in a multi-site cluster?
