I have a ODA X5, that is going to be erased and formatted. Can this system be used for a Splunk deployment? Is the application compatible with Oracle Linux OS?

Oracle Linux OS is based on Red hat Linux.. so, mostly, splunk installation will work fine.
Also, check the kernel version.. if kernel version is recent/latest or closer to latest, then, installation will work fine.
Try the tar file method...

Probably. The thing about the ODA is the odd setup of the shared storage between the nodes. I can't remember exactly how it's exposed to the OS, but it's possible the internal storage is not really supported. You can't use ACFS or cloudfs for Splunk. So, can the internal disks be configured so at least one of the nodes can see them as one of the supported file systems listed here:
http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/7.1.2/Installation/Systemrequirements#Supported_file_sys... ?

Check the kernel version. Splunk support is based on the kernel version as opposed to the flavor of Linux.
