Changed XML not updating without restart

Is it normal for Splunk to require a restart in order to display changes to dashboards? I created an advanced XML view and whenever I change the XML, I have to restart the splunkd process to get it to display the changes. Using a ctrl + f5 does not help.

I am running Splunk 4.3.3 on Server 2003

You can keep this URL handy because each time you hit it, it tells Splunk to reload the views from disk without restarting.

http://host:port/en-US/debug/refresh?entity=admin/views

If you want something cooler you can download Sideview Utils, either the old 1.3 version on Splunkbase, or the newer free-for-internal-use version on the Sideview Site. Because then you can use the "FreshMaker" view it has.

you just go to

http://host:port/en-US/app/sideview_utils/refresh_entities

and it has a little UI asking you what kind of splunk entity you want to refresh from disk -- savedsearches/eventtypes/views/etc... By default it refreshes the views.

It's very handy and a lot of Sideview app developers just keep a bookmark in their browser toolbar.

That was exactly the problem, thanks a lot for your help.

I think you still have an "app" in there. Note that the URL is just "/en-US/debug/refresh?entity=admin/views"

This is the error I get when I visit that URL:

404 Not Found

Return to Splunk home page

App "debug" does not support UI access. See its app.conf for more information.

Do I need to do some further config?
