Hello. I noticed that with the dashboard "new panel" and also "edit panel" dialog boxes, there is no dropdown for selecting the time range [?]

Is this expected? If it is I would suggest something be added because as it is it is super confusing "what do I put in those fields"? for beginners.
Thanks.

This was true until Splunk 6 - now you can easily add a timerange picker to a dashboard using the Dashboard Editor and simple XML.

The dashboard timerange picker applies only to inline searches. Also, the panels that contain the searches must not specify time ranges.
