maxmind geo database with splunk 6

Would it be possible to use the Maxmind IPv4 database in substitute with Splunk 6's ipv4 database for the maps function?

I hear this may be an additional feature available in a future release, but right now you would have to use the Google Maps app instead, which functions quite well in Splunk 6.
