Splunk Cluster Enterprise 6.5.2 - Search Head Cluster plus Indexing Cluster

We've found that regular Splunk users are unable sharing their private dashboards and getting an error message similar to below:

User 'username' with roles { group1, group2, user } cannot write: /nobody/search/view/ { read: [*], write: [admin, power] }, removable: no

According to docs regular user should be able to do that.

How to: Change dashboard from Private to Public

Using Splunk Admin Account, go to Settings -> All Configurations(in Knowledge Section)
Find the name of the XML file the user used to create their Dashboard

Example: We had a user create a dashboard named Generic Connector Dashboard. It was saved as a file named "mywork.xml". You may need to search in "$Splunk_home\etc\apps\search\local\data\ui\views" to find the name of the correct xml file.
Click on "Permissions"
Change from Keep private to This App Only or All Apps
Select the permissions that you want to allow on the dashboard.
Click "SAVE"

To share a dashboard, the user must have write access to the app they're trying to share it in. Assuming you're using the "search" app, simply grant users write access and they should be able to share dashboards.

As per http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/7.0.0/Admin/Aboutusersandroles

user -- this role can create and edit its own saved searches, run searches, edit its own preferences, create and edit event types, and other similar tasks.

Everything a user role member can do it private. What documentation page you're referring to?

In addition to what @somesoni2 and @Mus has mentioned, only power and admin users can share the dashboards with other user. If you want to allow a user to be able to share dashboards you can do following.

  1. Create new role by inheriting capabilities of user role.
  2. Grant this role write access to specific app.
  3. Assign users to this role.

All the user in the role will be able to make their dashboards public.

Thanks for answer! We run 6.5.2 - and here what I see in docs

http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/6.5.2/Viz/DashboardPermissions#Managing_dashboard_permis...

User role options If you have the user role and its default capabilities, you can do the following.

- Create dashboards that are private to you.
- Provide other users with read and write access to the dashboard.

Check your permission settings on the SHC, the message says only power and admin user can write.
