Dashboards & Visualizations

Is it possible to use the panels of one Dashboard in another dashboard like a template?

hi All,

We are looking to create a dashboard with Panels containing OS metrics info and some Application status info of specific set of servers. We came to know that our infra team already has a similar dashboard for the OS metrics whihc we woud like to re-use in our dashboard.

Now the question is instead of creating the similar panels again in our dashboard is it possible to re-use that dashborad itself within our dashboard like a linked one or like a base template and so if the infra team makes any changes to their original dashboard they gets updated in our dashboard as well?

Is it possible?

Thanks,
M

The exact answer to you question is yes, use a prebuilt panel:
https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/7.3.1/Viz/AddPanels#Create_and_add_a_panel_by_reference
But you can also reference a saved search using the | savedsearch command, or a previous run of a saved search using the | loadjob command.

Yes, this is possible. If you'd like to have the two be identical (meaning no change to the underlying search at all), you can have your peers save the search as a report. From that point, you can add that report as a dashboard panel to the dashboard of your choice.

How to modify a report's permissions: https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/7.3.0/Report/Managereportpermissions
How to add a report to your dashboard: https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/latest/SearchTutorial/Addreportstodashboard

Thanks @jluo_splunk

But with reports we can't use time range pickers or pass dropdown inputs right.

Ah, in this case... you can grab the search they used, and then you can use tokens to add a time range input (and others.)

Yes, it is possible. Edit your dashboard and click the Add Panel button. In the sidebar that opens, click on Clone from Dashboard, select the dashboard that contains the desired panel, then select the panel you want to re-use.

Thanks for the reply! But the panels of the original dahsboard has post-process searches due to which it wont allow cloning panles from other dashboards.

Then you'll have to reproduce the original panels yourself using in-line search.
