Disable cancelling of jobs when dashboard is closed

I'm trying to build a custom dashboard with some added JS that adds a button for sending the search job to the background. It actually works great, except for the fact that closing the dashboard automatically POSTs...

To the search job's /control endpoint. Is there a way to disable whatever is listening for the window close event, so that my job isn't cancelled?

For situations like that, I usually schedule the saved searches to run periodically and then use loadjob in the dashboard panels to pull up the results of the most recent search.
