how are business transactions discovered

I had gone through the training videos. Can someone clarify how are business transactions discovered by AppD.

It is all HTTP based  transaction ?

Regarding other query on http transaction, It depends if the request type is servlet we apply http servlet interceptors or the corresponding entry point interceptors to categorize to the different BT type. Please be sure that you can define custom POJO rules under transaction detection in AD controller/viewer UI and and AD agent discovers then though the requests are executed as part of standalone java program where no http transactions involved.
