New to App dynamics and want to grow in the APM space

Hi Experts,

I am new to the app dynamics and have some knowledge of Java but didnt work as a developer at any point of time. My entire span is in Infrastructure monitoring but now want to explore the APM side as well. I want to use the trial and learn the tool. What is the best way to move forward. Any help is highly appreciated.

Our Education team provides some excellent self-paced training here:

Around the middle of the page there is a section titled "Self-paced training". The "Accelerator Program" is a great place to start. It is free and covers installation, application monitoring, troubleshooting, and configuration. "eLearning" links you to longer more advanced courses.

If you browse a bit more you will see we also have other training options available as well - much of it free. For example, "Learning Bytes" links you to 2-10 minute training videos on specific topics ranging from "Introduction to APM" to "Utilizing JVM Metrics". Tech Webinars are free live 45 minute sessions that take place every other Wednesday. Topics range from beginner to expert level. Recordings of past webinars are also available through this link.

Thanks for the wonderful guidance. Once i start seeing the videos how do i practice those in real time? Can i get free access to some APPD instance?

Below is a link to a VM environment you can use. It contains the application used in most of our training labs.

-It's in the Oracle VirtualBox (free download) format but can be converted to any virtualization format. 

-The AppD license in it's Controller will need to be updated with a test license. 

-There is a readme included.

-CentOS 7, Gnome desktop.

-Should run on computers with at least 8GB of RAM, but that's a minimum.

Can you tell me if i have to download Virtual box or i will get it when i download the file you have on google drive. Because i am directly unzipping the file you have on drive.

No, you don't need the virtualbox aplication until after it's unzipped. I'll look into this, but in the meantime can you try other unzipping tools?

Here's an uncompressed version. Sorry, that it's so huge (9GB).  Please keep in mind that this whole initiative is still in beta. Let us know if it works out for you. We're wokring to make sure that we have a reliably compressed windows version in the near future.

Hi Brad, looks like the zip file is corrupted. when i unzip it , it cannot find few files that is looking for. can you please share the latest zip file or an FTP site to download

We're actually working on making MovieZtream more generally available now. Not sure about packaging it directly with the Controller, but that's an interesting idea. Hello, 

why dont you include this demo Moviestreamz application(as an optional installer)  as a part of the AppDynamics controller install software. This would be helpful for the existing customers to play &learn  in thier Dev environment.

Rohit -It's a standard zip file, though a very large one. What error are you getting using what tool and on what OS?  

Also, be sure that you have 10GB or more free space on your hard drive AFTER downloading and before unzipping.

Hi Brad,

I am getting the attached error when i am trying to unzip the file. And my 😧 where i am unzipping it is having more than 100 GB of space. And i am using the Windows unzip tool to unzip it.
