Hi
I am trying to add a JMX Metric to a graph or dashboard but when I try add a data set to the graphs, the JMX option cant be found. According to the docs and other posts it should be located here:
Application Infrastructure Permorance > My Tier > JMX
The only options I have at that level are:
1. Agent
2. Hardware Resources
3. Invididual Nodes
4. JVM
I have looked into each one of these options as well but nothing.
Can you help me with how to view a JMX metric on a graph
Thanks in advance
Andrew
Hi Ray
Thanks for your help and explanation on the JMX persistent metrics. I was already at this point though and have already added a new JMX metric configuration for my own custom JMX MBean property which should have created a persistent metric which I should then be able to report on.
The problem I have is that I cant seem to pull this out anywhere. When I try to do a report or a dashboard the JMX metrics are never shown in the metric browser. I have attached some screenshots to show you.
From what I have read online I should be able to find the metrics in the metrics browser under:
Metric Browser > Application Infrastructure Performance > JMX > (then the JMX configuration groups and metric below that)
I dont have that option at all, the JMX section is not present in any metric browser window so I can never create reports or dashboards with any preset JMX attributes or any of my custom ones either.
I am using the AppDynamics SaaS offering at the moment if that makes a difference?
Thanks
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
Can you check whether mbean and object pattern is exposed by any of the nodes in Node dashboard -> JMX -> Mbean browser section in controller UI as referred sample screenshot listed below:
Or if you confirm the saas URL you are referring we can check the same from node dashboard -> JMX -> Mbean browser screen , to check if the mbean is exposed in jvm nodes associated in UI.
If the mbean exposed and jmx mbean not shown in UI , please send the agent logs for our review.
Also can you change the metric path from "information points" to some other text "AFT mbeans", we see "information points" metric path/folder is used for "information points" feature in metric browser which could be see in same screenshot you have provided at the bottom of the screen, this is just to avoid any confusion.
Let us know if that information helps.
Regards,
Arun
Hi Arun
Thanks for your reply, weirdly enough I just updated the metric path to AFT MBeans and it has now appeared in all the places I said it was not before. Weirdly enough I originally set it to something unique but changed it to Information Points just trying to get it to work.
Not sure what has made it work now but its working
Thanks for your time on this
Cheers
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
Glad to hear that suggested changes did the trick, we suspect the agent node might not have got affected for config changes you did ealier before changing to reserved metric path and that could be the reason for not working earlier.
We suggest you to click "reset" from node dashboard -> agents screen to make sure config reached and there is no cache issues when happens next time.
Regards,
Arun
