Hi,
I am running a application on my local machine and want to setup monitoring for technology stack used in that.
Frontend<-->JMS Gateway Server<--> Messaging Queue <--> Logical Server <--> DB
1. Can i use Saas for that?
2. If yes, i have installed that and machine agent as well [is it required to install any other agent as well or controller]?
3. Machine agent is succesfully running and what could be the next step in monitoring the technology stacks.?
Hi,
Monitoring application is not dependent on saas on onpremise controller , you can opt for saas or onpremise.
If the Frontend ,Logical server and middle tiers are running on JVM and webapp running on Frontend and Logical server are java based apps you would need to install java agent agent , go through following doc links once: http://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO39/AppDynamics+Application+Intelligence+Platform
http://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO39/Install+the+Java+Agent
If you are referring to .NET /PHP you might need to .net agent on IIS and PHP agent on Apache or supported server using artifacts at http://download.appdynamics.com/browse/zone/3/ as stated in doc link above.
Let us know if that provides some insight to start monitoring your apps using AD.

Arun
Hi Arun,
Thanks for your reply.
I still have some queries before i kick start my application monitoring. But before i ask something i found small typo that you can fix in application 🙂 . While editing Aplication Flow->Database & Remote Services ("Show Ony the specified Backends").
Please find below are some more queries.
* My application frontend is javascript/html, do i need to configure javascript agent for that. If yes, can i get EUM licence confirgured for my account.
* If my technology stack has something which is not running on IIS, Node, JVM servers, would i still be able to monitor that.
* I need to create application flow for my application as whole to track everything, how can i do that for below stated stack [is that possible]. Please suggest.
Javascript<-->Kaazing Gateway <--> ActiveMQ <--> Erlang <--Oracle -->
* I want my JVM to send ActiveMQ Application Data to appdynamics, how do i start ActiveMQ bound to that of application.
* My app agent status is always showing as "Not Reporting" but installed.
Hi,
Please find our response to your queries inline:
>>>>>>>>>. While editing Aplication Flow->Database & Remote Services ("Show Ony the specified Backends").
Answer: We understood that you are referring to checkbox in flow view settings , if this is the case, this helps to select the backends to be visisbile in dashboard flow view for selected flow map with custom filters updated.
>>>>>>>>>. My application frontend is javascript/html, do i need to configure javascript agent for that. If yes, can i get EUM licence confirgured for my account.?
Answer: Yes, you need to configure EUM for view html pages as stated in http://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO39/Set+Up+and+Configure+Web+EUEM and we request you to raise a help ticket (email help@appdynamics.com) Or get in touch with your sales to get provision EUEM license for your account
>>>>>>>>>. If my technology stack has something which is not running on IIS, Node, JVM servers, would i still be able to monitor that ?
Answer: If your webapp is not running on supported environments like jvm/iis/php/Node js Or even web eum, then we request you to check if machine agent extensions helps here to monitor few metrics , find the list of extensions at link: http://community.appdynamics.com/t5/Exchange/idb-p/extensions
>>>>>>>> I need to create application flow for my application as whole to track everything, how can i do that for below stated stack [is that possible]. Please suggest.
Javascript<-->Kaazing Gateway <--> ActiveMQ <--> Erlang <--Oracle -->
Answer:
- Javascript cannot be monitored but we monitor Javascript errors using web EUEM , check if that helps
- Websocket is supported as referred in docs and you would need to enable the property :
http://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO39/App+Agent+Node+Properties+Reference#AppAgentNodeProperties... correlation will not work ootb as stated in docs: http://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO39/Supported+Environments+and+Versions+for+Java#SupportedEnvi...
http://docs.appdynamics.com/display/PRO39/AppDynamics+Application+Intelligence+Platform
And we monitor ActiveMQ as Remote services as stated in above doc link,
- Erlang - i am afraid that this is not supported platform
- OracleDB we monitor as JDBC Database backend
>>>> I want my JVM to send ActiveMQ Application Data to appdynamics, how do i start ActiveMQ bound to that of application?
Answer: Check if active mq extension helps to gather target metrics if the backend metrics provided ootb by java/.net agent does not help: http://community.appdynamics.com/t5/eXchange-Community-AppDynamics/ActiveMQ-Monitoring-Extension/idi...
>>>>> My app agent status is always showing as "Not Reporting" but installed
Answer: This could be because agent have network issues to connect to controller, if this is not the case, Can you send the agent logs and screenshot from UI to debug further
Hope that answers all your queries.

Arun
Hi Arun,
Please ignore last message, its working now :).
Many Thanks
Glad to hear that news from , we also do not find any suspicious information in earlier provided logs that could stop agent reporting , feel free to raise new query for any further assistance
