Why does Launcher only show the really old apps from splunkbase

If I go to launcher in my 4.1.6 instance, and I go to "Browse more apps", it lists a ton of apps (125) but not one of them has been updated in the last 7 months.

I know there are a ton of apps on Splunkbase that have been updated very recently, but none of these are appearing in Launcher.

The 3 most recent are the only ones that were last updated during 2010:

  1. "Netcat Shell" (last updated 07/30/2010),
  2. "TCP or UDP Sending" (02/25/2010)
  3. "JMS Receiver for indexing" (02/03/2010)

Then there are 41 apps which were last updated in 2009, 45 apps which were last updated in 2008 and 36 apps which were last updated in 2007.

So this really is the old and dead apps. Any app that hasnt been touched in that long is for all intents and purposes dead.

Is this just a bug I'm experiencing or is this a known problem?

It appears that the app list presented at the URL that server.conf was pointing splunkweb to was not sorted correctly.

This has just been rectified and all versions of Splunk should now show a list of available apps in descending order of number of downloads.

I am being told that this unfortunate app sorting order has been there for a little bit more than a week. And indeed, we do hope that the correction brings a flurry of well-deserved downloads to recent apps.

Wow. How long was it like that? Was this just a blip or is there likely to be a rather significant uptick in download numbers for us app developers?
