Can someone please tell me what is viewstates referring to under metadata?
And if I want to hide only Settings for Splunk users (Only able to search and logout button), what should I do?
Thanks

viewstates.conf is an old configuration that used to store the state of a view in Splunk, for example what kind of chart was selected for a given saved search. This was superseded in roughly 6.0, the settings were moved to savedsearches.conf or SimpleXML.
See docs from 6.0: http://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/6.0/AdvancedDev/Migration#Viewstates_are_no_longer_suppo...
