Website Monitoring with Splunk 8.01 free not working

If you install Splunk 8.01 and the current version of the Website Monitoring 2.9. plugin, you can add new websites while you are still in the trial period. Everything works fine.

Once you set Splunk to the "Free Version", adding websites will not work any longer.

The Workaround (deleting the Plugin Folder, Restart Splunk, Reinstall the Plugin) does definitly not work!

How do I get Website Monitoring running when Splunk is running in the Free version?

Many features are disabled once Splunk is converted to the Free license. It looks like this app relies heavily on alerting and scheduling which is no longer in "Free": https://docs.splunk.com/Documentation/Splunk/8.0.1/Admin/MoreaboutSplunkFree.

It seems, Indexing stopp working after downgrade to "Free" license.
